The U.S. has proposed amendments to the existing International Health Regulations (IHR) that would drastically expand the authority of the WHO. This is simultaneous with a pending Pandemic Treaty being drafted right now that would vastly expand the authority and resources of the WHO. These amendments do not require a 2/3 vote in the member states’ parliaments for adoption and thus have no oversight, yet would absolutely change the member states’ responses (and responsibilities) to future public health threats! They are on the World Health Assembly Agenda for May 22-28, 2022, and if passed, could go into effect by the end of this year.
